Day 2: Tuesday 28th
What a surprise we got on Tuesday morning when we arrived in to find our first chick had arrived already. To say we were excited was an understatement. As other boys arrived to school they all visited to see our 1st chick.

About an hour later a "pip" arrived on the 2nd egg. We watched at this turned into a "zip" and eventually we saw our 2nd chick hatch. It was a great experience as we saw the 2 chicks take their first steps in the incubator. We had to leave them in this overnight until they become dry & fluffy.
Day 3 - Wednesday 29th
We arrived on Wednesday morning - super early - to find chick No. 3 had arrived. A white ball of fluff. Already the choice of names for our chick had begun :)

Things were getting a bit crowded in the incubator so it was time to move our first 2 chicks into their new home for the next week. This is called a brooder. It has a heated plate to keep them warm, a feeding tray & a water container. It was really exciting to touch them for the first time. We cant hold them until next week as they are still too small & fragile.
They looked really happy in their new home. We had lots of visitors that day including the Junior Infants from Holy Trinity.
Just when we thought we couldn't handle any more excitement in one day - we watched as egg No. 4 hatched before our eyes. This time a black chick. So we left the white & black chick in the incubator over night so they could become dry & fluffy.
Day 4: Thursday 30th
Another surprise this morning!!!!!! 2 more new arrivals. 6 of our 7 eggs have now hatched. We can't believe how lucky we are.

So to make room for our new arrivals in the incubator we moved the little white & black chick to the brooder. Things were starting to get busy & noisy....lots of chirping and chatting.
Day 5-7: Friday 31st - Sunday 2nd April
The 6 chicks are now in the brooder. They look fluffy, adorable, excited & happy to be in their new home. We named 4 chicks today: we called the black one, Claire. We called the white one, John. We called a yellow & brown one, Roman. We called another yellow & brown one, Tom. Ms Killilea’s class are going to name the other 2. We are going to change their bedding later to put fresh shavings in. We can’t wait for Monday because we get to hold our chicks. Teacher is taking them home for the weekend to mind them.
Day 8: Monday 3rd April
Today was sooooooooooooooo exciting. We finally got to hold the chicks. They felt soft and fluffy. We said a poem to them afterwards.
