Last Thursday, Kay came into our classroom to show us how to plant seeds and to teach us how to mind the plants as they grow. We planted Cress Seeds. We chose these seeds because we can eat Cress and because they grow quickly. Jayden is in charge of watering the plants and checking their height. It has been 5 days and they have grown 2cm so far! Take a look at 2nd class planting our seeds.
By Jayden Sweeney, Jimmy Cleary and Francis Maughan We created Santa Cabin using clay. We each got to form our own cabin which we had designed using clay. It was challenging, especially putting on the roof, we found found this very tricky!
After letting our cabins dry, we painted and decorated them! Take a look at the pictures of our cabins! Our Christmas Play was called Santa Goes to the Caribbean. When we where doing our play Andrew was Santa and Jimmy was Griseld and Sean was Ambrose. Wiktor played the part of Evil Genius and Wisdom played Mardin. Kamil was Rudolph. We practiced for two weeks before the show, and we put in a lot of effort into learning our lines and practicing our acting and our songs. We were so proud on the day of the show, our parents were delighted to see us on stage and we really enjoyed the experience!
By Andrew Sweeney and Jimmy Cleary Our Halloween party was so great. We had so much fun and the costumes were scary. We had popcorn and 7up and a movie. We are reading a witch book. It is a scary book about how to identify witches. It is written by Roald Dahl. In the story the witches want to eat all the children in the land. The boy and his grandmother must stop them. We also read George's Marvellous Medicine, by Roald Dahl. He hates his grandmother because she is very mean so he made a magic medicine that made her grow and grow. We liked these books because they are Halloween themed!
By Jayden Sweeney and Andrew Sweeney Galwegians RugBy TournamentWill Thornton from Connaght trained us for 6 weeks. We learnt lots of skills and a few weeks later we took part in a rugby tournament in Galwegians. We broke up into 2 teams and there were 6 other teams there from different schools in Galway. We won 3 games but lost 1 game. Jayden, Andrew, Seán, Brooklyn and Jimmy scored tries. It was a miserable and cold day, we were freezing but we never gave up. We all worked together and tried our best through the whole tournament. Our teachers and Will were very happy with us. We were glad Will was proud of us because it was our last day playing with him. We had such a fun day!!! In Ms Hanrahan's 2nd Class we read Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together in class.
We made Golden Tickets and the following Friday we set up a Chocolate Factory in our classroom. We had been planning our recipes during the week and we were really excited to make wonderful chocolate creations. We couldn't wait to taste our sweets and they were fantastic!!! We were stuffed after eating our chocolates and watched the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film at the end of the day. It was a great day! Thank you Ms Corcoran for helping us! By Seán O'Halloran and Micheal Mullaney Day 1: Monday 27th Gerard arrived from Inagh Free Range Farm, in Co. Clare, with an incubator & 7 eggs for us. The “egg-citment” was great. He said we could expect to see our first arrivals on Wednesday. Day 2: Tuesday 28th What a surprise we got on Tuesday morning when we arrived in to find our first chick had arrived already. To say we were excited was an understatement. As other boys arrived to school they all visited to see our 1st chick. About an hour later a "pip" arrived on the 2nd egg. We watched at this turned into a "zip" and eventually we saw our 2nd chick hatch. It was a great experience as we saw the 2 chicks take their first steps in the incubator. We had to leave them in this overnight until they become dry & fluffy. Day 3 - Wednesday 29th We arrived on Wednesday morning - super early - to find chick No. 3 had arrived. A white ball of fluff. Already the choice of names for our chick had begun :) Things were getting a bit crowded in the incubator so it was time to move our first 2 chicks into their new home for the next week. This is called a brooder. It has a heated plate to keep them warm, a feeding tray & a water container. It was really exciting to touch them for the first time. We cant hold them until next week as they are still too small & fragile. They looked really happy in their new home. We had lots of visitors that day including the Junior Infants from Holy Trinity. Just when we thought we couldn't handle any more excitement in one day - we watched as egg No. 4 hatched before our eyes. This time a black chick. So we left the white & black chick in the incubator over night so they could become dry & fluffy. Day 4: Thursday 30th Another surprise this morning!!!!!! 2 more new arrivals. 6 of our 7 eggs have now hatched. We can't believe how lucky we are. So to make room for our new arrivals in the incubator we moved the little white & black chick to the brooder. Things were starting to get busy & noisy....lots of chirping and chatting. Day 5-7: Friday 31st - Sunday 2nd April The 6 chicks are now in the brooder. They look fluffy, adorable, excited & happy to be in their new home. We named 4 chicks today: we called the black one, Claire. We called the white one, John. We called a yellow & brown one, Roman. We called another yellow & brown one, Tom. Ms Killilea’s class are going to name the other 2. We are going to change their bedding later to put fresh shavings in. We can’t wait for Monday because we get to hold our chicks. Teacher is taking them home for the weekend to mind them. Day 8: Monday 3rd April Today was sooooooooooooooo exciting. We finally got to hold the chicks. They felt soft and fluffy. We said a poem to them afterwards. We were super excited to get the opportunity to dress up as our favourite characters on Friday. Author and Backwards Speller Extraordinaire David Donohue visited our school on Thursday. He has published three books about his backwards-spelling hero, Walter Speazlebud. We had great fun listening to him pronounce all our names backwards. Congratulations to Ms. Curran's 6th class for setting up your own business. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to eat chocolate covered strawberries & marshmallows in class. As you can see from our faces we reeeeeeeally enjoyed them :) : )We joined other schools around Ireland to take part in Operation Transformation's "10@10". We had great fun in the hall showing off our amazing dance moves to Just Dance music. Here are some videos of us showing off our dance moves. |
