Today we were visited by 6 little chicks - they were only a week old! There was one black one, a white one and four brown ones. The black one was really shy. Some of them were named after the footballers Messi and Ronaldo. Others were named Clare, John and Roman. We look forward to finding out which were boys and which were girls!
They slip on shiny surfaces so we had to keep them on a cloth. We loved rubbing them and even got to hold them. This scared us a little as their claws were sharp and they pecked us. We had to be very careful and gentle.
We cupped them in our hands and placed our thumbs over their wings to hold them. We didn't much like when they pooped but learned that this meant they were afraid. The largest chick flapped it's wings and jumped in the air.
When they went back in the cage they went for a nap under the heater. The chicks were really fluffy and cute.
The farmer will collect them on Thursday and will hopefully answer our questions. We'll miss our adorable new friends!
