We researched The Holocaust as part of our work on World War 2. Between the years 1941-1945, around 6 million Jews were killed. 1.5 million of these were children. We wrote poems based on the Holocaust using our imagination that we were present at that time using all the information we had gained.
Holocaust Poem - I Am ...
I am a 9 year old Jewish boy,
I wonder if there is a way out,
I hear people crying for mercy,
I see people starved,
I want all of us to be set free,
I am a 9 year old Jewish boy.
I pretend I'm with my family at home,
I feel hurt and sore,
I touch bullets on the floor,
I worry that I'll never be set free,
I am a 9 year old Jewish boy.
I understand why there's a fence,
I say it will all be OK,
I dream I wasn't a Jewish boy,
I try to get out every day,
I hope all my family will be safe,
I am a 9 year old Jewish boy.

Holocaust Poem - I Am ...
I am a soldier at war,
I wonder if the Allies know about this,
I hear my friend loading his gun,
I see dead people in front of me,
I am a soldier at war.
I pretend this is not happening,
I feel everything - angry, sad, anxious,
I touch dead bodies all around me,
I worry that we will lose the war,
I am soldier at war.
I understand why we hate the Jews,
I say it will all be OK,
I dream that this war will soon end,
I try to keep our power,
I hope we will win the war,
I am a soldier at war.
