Thank you to all who came to watch our presentations, view our displays and discuss Biodiversity and what we are doing to improve the biodiversity in our school grounds...
All set for our Biodiversity Action Day tomorrow... We're very excited to share our projects with you.
We really have been busy increasing the biodiversity in our school grounds this year. We've planted a variety of flowers, trees and vegetables; We've hung and maintained bird feeders; We've built a bug hotel and have hung up some little ones and we've increased our little Pollination Plot. We'll be following the All Ireland Pollinator Plan's 6 week mowing cycle - just in case you thought we were letting the place go wild ----- we are! We've already witnessed an increase in wildlife. (The teachers have been complaining about dirt on their cars - those parked under the bird feeders anyhow!!!) And long may it continue..... This was our original Habitat Plan...spot the difference... We've made the most of the sunshine today (like our bee friends) and we investigated what bee friendly flowers are continuing to sprout up in our pollinator garden.... We spotted clover, dandelions, yarrow, heathers and much more. Jeanne Sampier came back to assist us and was impressed with all of our hawthorn trees which are also great pollinators. But the icing on the cake was when we spotted a baby buff tailed bee. Our work is paying off!
Will from SEAI and An Taisce visited us today and, in a very fun way, talked to us about how we can save energy in school, at home, EVERYWHERE!!! Maybe you can help us make the change.... We even created electricity with a few potatoes...
We've managed to harvest a few potatoes from our Edible Garden.... Now to cook and eat them!!! @AnTaisce @GreenSchoolsIreland @GalwayGreenLeaf @EuropeanGreenCapitalAward
