We really have been busy increasing the biodiversity in our school grounds this year. We've planted a variety of flowers, trees and vegetables; We've hung and maintained bird feeders; We've built a bug hotel and have hung up some little ones and we've increased our little Pollination Plot. We'll be following the All Ireland Pollinator Plan's 6 week mowing cycle - just in case you thought we were letting the place go wild ----- we are! We've already witnessed an increase in wildlife. (The teachers have been complaining about dirt on their cars - those parked under the bird feeders anyhow!!!) And long may it continue.....
This was our original Habitat Plan...spot the difference...
St. Michael's was one of 3 schools to be awarded the first Green Flag in Ireland. We, the Green Schools Committee, are continuing this tradition and have just been awarded our 8th Green Flag. This one related to Biodiversity.
